Cause of Urine Trouble in Aging Men and Related Self-Help Strategies

Urine trouble is a common problem in aging men. This is sometimes associated with the enlargement or inflammation of the prostate gland. However, the enlargement of this organ is not considered as the main cause of urine trouble. Symptoms of urinary problems are less attributed to those of prostate cancer.

In the older category of men, the signs may be as a result of tube blocking caused by non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate glands (BPH). The most popular sign of this disorder is the difficulty in the emptying of your bladder. In most cases, urine trouble becomes a bother and therefore demands for medical attention. Very few urinary signs are associated with prostate changes. Besides, quite a number of men have extended prostrates yet experience minimal or no symptoms at all. So, what are the self-help strategies for urine trouble?

For simple urination issues that don’t bother you much, there are some steps you need to practice at home. Reduce the number of drinks including alcohol, caffeinated soft drinks, and coffee. This is usually recommended before going to bed if you have difficulty in getting up to pass urine during the night. Besides, it is recommended adjusting your daily diet to minimize the processed meals specifically the refined carbohydrates.

Why do we put diapers on continent males?

There are many reasons that caregivers might place a continent male in a diaper.  Usually, it is because they can not use a male urinal without spilling it.

When we put a diaper on a man or boy, it can lead to depression, decreased self esteem, and decreased participation in their care and activities of daily living, just to name a few.  It is embarrassing and humiliating whether young or old and in older men progressively leads to lack of interest in their hygiene and appearance.

A diaper should be used only for men who are incontinent (unable to control their urine flow), not for convenience or hygiene.  Diapers cause diaper rashes, and can lead to ulcers or sores as a result of the constant moisture exposed to the skin.  They require that a caregiver thoroughly clean the entire area covered by the diaper in order to remove any urine from the skin to prevent rashes, sores, and odors.  This is very time consuming and labor intensive.

If you are at the end of your rope and need an alternative to a urinal, try a MUDS or Male Urinary Drainage System before you place your loved one in a diaper.  It is a Male urination problemsthat has been designed for men with handicaps or difficulty using a urinal.
